The Spice is Right: scented and savory autumn wedding ideas

Though it's technically still summer, the days are getting shorter and soon it will be cool and autumnal. That's when we crave a cozy fire, mulling spices, and a little cuddle-up time with something warm and comforting, be it a spouse, four-legged, book or beverage.

To kick off the approaching fall season, my Examiner.com colleague and friend Ann Keeler Evans wrote this intriguing little article about "Seven Ways To Use Spices To Heighten Your Senses At Your Wedding." She suggests using unusual, fragrant accents for your bouquet--vanilla beans and ginger flowers, for example--and offers several unique ways to incorporate spices and their meanings into your ceremony and celebration.

In a short dig online, I found an abundance of spicy, herbaceous ideas for bouquets, favors, placecards, bridal shower themes, locations, ceremony rituals from India and Africa, and let's not forget the jolly old English wedding fruitcake and its redolent cinnamony goodness! This zero gravity spice rack makes for a piquant wedding gift, and you can bet your bottom barleycorn someone will ask the DJ to play Spice Girls while you're burning up the dance floor.

As a final touch, these zesty wedding cake charms for your guests will help them feel the burn long after your wedding day (in the very nicest way, of course.)

There's nothing like the return of cool, dusky days to fire up one's gratitude for a fire in the hearth and someone to love; it's a perfect time to marry, celebrate, and (what else?) give thanks for the good things in our lives. Have fun planning your spicy fall wedding, and may it be memorable (and flavorful!) for everyone.

Until next time, a sweet and long life to you (and don't forget the chile peppers!)
